480 Kilometres of Faith: Walking for the Girls of Sasura

On December 2, 2025, an extraordinary journey began at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi.

At the centre of it was Bishop Dr. William Kiplagat Tuimising, then 80 years old, preparing to walk approximately 480 kilometres from Nairobi to Mombasa.

But this was not simply a fitness challenge.

It was a mission.

Walking for a Purpose

The Walk for Fitness and Missionary Work brought together faith, physical fitness and community service.

The team planned to travel through more than 20 towns, covering approximately 30 kilometres a day on the journey toward Mombasa.

The campaign focused attention on the needs of Sasura Girls School in Marsabit County, where severe water shortages were affecting students and everyday school life.

The initiative sought to raise support towards a sustainable water solution, including a borehole, as well as improvements to the school's facilities.

Faith That Takes Action

The journey demonstrated an important principle behind Finishing Well Foundation's work.

Faith is not only something we speak about.

It can also be something we put into action.

Every kilometre became an opportunity to raise awareness, engage communities and draw attention to the needs of young people living in areas where basic resources cannot be taken for granted.

The journey brought together Bishop Tuimising, FWF CEO James Onsongo, Dr. William Sifuna, Commander Steve Strong and other participants and supporters.

A Journey Bigger Than the Distance

480 kilometres is a long way.

But the real measure of the journey was never simply the distance.

It was the message behind it:

When a community faces a challenge, we can choose to move toward it.

For the girls of Sasura, the walk became a symbol of hope and advocacy.

For everyone who participated, it became a reminder that age, distance or difficulty should not prevent us from serving others.

Sometimes making a difference begins with taking the first step.

Start Well. Live Well. Finish Well.
