This year, as Bishop William K. A Life Measured in Faithfulness
A Boy From Bomet Who Said Yes
Bishop William Kiplagat Tuimising was born in 1946 to a humble family in Bomet County, in the days of colonial rule. At just 14 years old, he gave his life to Christ — a decision that would quietly reroute the next eight decades. He joined the African Gospel Church before moving to Nairobi, where he met Apostle Joe Kayo, the founder of Deliverance Church.
He became one of the church's pioneer members and leaders, and was ordained as a pastor in 1964. What began as a young man's yes to a call would go on to shape a movement that today spans thousands of congregations across Kenya and beyond.
The Architect Behind a Movement
For 22 years, Bishop Tuimising served as General Overseer of Deliverance Church International, steering the denomination through its formative years and anchoring it in theological conservatism and biblical purism. Under his leadership, more than 300 churches were planted and thousands of pastors and leaders were trained and mentored — a spiritual inheritance now carried forward across Kenya and the diaspora. He is remembered as one of the founding figures of the modern Pentecostal movement in Kenya.
A Peacemaker in the Nation's Hardest Hours
Bishop Tuimising's fatherhood was never confined to the church. When Kenya was torn apart by the 2007/8 post-election violence, he was among the clergy who stepped into the chaos to broker a truce and call warring parties back to peace. In the years since, he has continued to call on political leaders to campaign with dignity, to forgive one another, and to put the nation before ambition.
That lifetime of service was formally recognized in 2018, when President Uhuru Kenyatta awarded him the Order of the Grand Warrior of Kenya (OGW) — one of the country's highest civilian honors. In 2020, the Evangelical Movement further honored him as an honorary cleric on Mashujaa Day, Kenya's national day set aside to celebrate its heroes.
A Milestone Marked in Public
In July 2022, Bishop Tuimising marked 60 years of ministry with a colourful celebration at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre — attended by national dignitaries, fellow bishops, and thousands whose lives had been touched by his teaching. It was a rare public pause to honor a life that had, up to that point, simply kept working.
Author & Teacher of the Word
Beyond the pulpit, Bishop Tuimising is also an author. His book, Through the Eyes of Christ, captures decades of conviction on salvation and the role of the church in a broken world — one of Kenya's most enduring voices on the subject, put to paper for generations who will never hear him preach live.
His teaching ministry continues today through Finishing Well Foundation's Weekly Impartations, where he still shows up, every Monday, to pour into whoever is listening.
